Life at Springworks: A Day In The Life of An Operations Specialist

Kajol Agarwala is from Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. She loves baking and professionally she has completed her bachelor’s in commerce with legislative law. She loves exploring cuisines and exploring cafes. Previously, she worked as an accounting associate and joined Springworks as an operations Intern.

Let’s have a look at her journey!

What was your motivation towards trying operations?

I am a very curious person and I love to explore and learn new things. During the lockdown, when everything came to standstill, I didn’t want to sit idle but rather try something new and work from home. I did research on LinkedIn for work opportunities and came across Springworks and the Ops role. After I read the job description, I really wanted to apply and try Ops. It was something new but I really wanted to give it a shot.

What do you do as an Operations Specialist at Springworks?

I work for SpringVerify and I started off as an operations intern. I mostly focus on the insufficiencies that arise in the documents enclosed for background verification and clearing the tickets raised by the data entry team on the same. This role made me learn a lot of things and I am loving my work and the tasks that are assigned to me.

What do you like the most about working here?

The company culture is great. It’s something very new for me and I love all the benefits and initiatives that happen at work. There is no micromanagement and everyone gets to own their work and share their thoughts. Although I am an intern with no prior experience, there is proper training and guidance. There is a lot of flexibility which helps me to focus on other things as well.

How is it working with the Operations team?

Since I am new to this role, I tend to ask a lot of questions and understand every process. My team has been very patient and supportive. Everyone is cordial and they helped me get acquainted with the work. The standup calls are a lot of fun and we get to know each other a little better every day.

How was your Onboarding and Hiring process?

The entire process was very new to me. Remote working as a concept was something that I had heard about during the lockdown and I wanted to work at a startup. I was very anxious and nervous as the entire process was virtual. I got to know about async communication and most of the steps were paperless. The hiring process was swift as it was completed in very few days.

The team was very patient and polite. Initially, I had a call with Bhargavi who took me through the entire process and explained a few things about Springworks. Later on, I had an assignment and interviews. Rohan was kind enough to explain about the company and he gave a mini orientation about work and how we use Slack for communication.

I also had a formal introduction with the hiring team and the CEO on WhatsApp. I met my buddy and manager a few days before my official day. I was very excited and it was great to see how everyone in the company works. Everything was async and remote and the handbook covered most of the queries. I had my background verification and other documentation.

Furthermore, I met my teammate virtually for the first time and shadowed a few tasks until I got a hang of it. “Seamless” would be the one work with which I would want to describe the entire process.

Walk us through your day, Kajol

I wake up around 8 AM and freshen up. Then, I sort things at home and check with my parents if they need any help and assist them before I start work. My work starts with the Ops huddle at 09:50 AM and then I look after the tickets that have been raised. I spend time clearing the insufficiencies and taking breaks in between. I try to log out by 07:30 PM. There are a few days when I relax at home and on a few days I meet my friends and we go out.

What have been your greatest learnings and challenges so far?

I am learning new things every day. Starting from communication to tools there were many things that I see an improvement on. Challenges for me would be the transition to remote work and async communication. It took me a few days to understand how things work and the areas where I need to adapt. It was a slow and steady learning process. But now I really know my way around work. All thanks to my team and Springworks. I have also learnt how to check the insufficiencies in documents submitted by the candidates.

What’s your personal favorite between EngageWith and Trivia?

EngageWith is my favorite product. I love the entire concept of having a reward and recognition tool. It feels really good when you get appreciated for the efforts one puts into completing work.

What has been your favourite moment at work?

I love the days when I see my name on the gratitude channel. It just makes my day. Every day I also look forward to our Ops huddle as it’s a great way to start work.  Team lunches are something I really like, we not only bond but also play a lot of games.

Sneak – Peek into your life outside Springworks!

When you don’t find me working, I am on Netflix or any other OTT platform. I am not hooked on a particular show but I try to watch the latest ones. Apart from this, I try to spend time with my family and friends on the weekends. Weekends are the days I get to bake and I take orders too. Right now, I am just saving my earnings to visit Paris 🙂
